Jason is a local attorney and founder of Economou Law & Consulting, LLLC, a boutique firm that specializes in public policy, program design, mediation, and operational strategy. Recent projects have included program design and implementation with the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, strategic planning and board development with Hungry Heroes Hawaii, and advising on regulatory and financing matters for several housing development efforts to address wildfire recovery.

Jason is intimately familiar with Maui County housing policy, operations, and community housing needs from his five-year tenure as Government Affairs Director for the Realtors Association of Maui. Prior to that, Jason was an attorney with Horovitz Tilly, LLLC, where he specialized in real estate law and civil litigation. His diverse professional background also includes leading major education reform and cultural preservation efforts in East Africa, broadcast journalism, and teaching. Jason graduated magna cum laude from the honors program at The Citadel, and he received his Juris Doctor from Charleston School of Law.

In addition to his professional experience, Jason has a wealth of philanthropic and pro bono experience to draw from, which includes service as:

  • President of the Maui Food Bank Board of Directors
  • Member of the Maui Family YMCA Board of Directors and CEO Selection Committee
  • Sworn arbitrator in the Hawaii State Judiciary Court Annexed Arbitration Program
  • Ka Ipu Kukui Fellow, 2023/24 Cohort
  • Application reviewer for the Maui County Affordable Housing Fund
  • Member of the Climate Action Advisory Committee to the Maui County Council
  • Member of the Community Advisory Board for the Kaahumanu Transportation Corridor
  • Member of the Maui Advisory Board for Best Buddies Hawaii
  • Peace Corps Volunteer in Uganda, where he launched national indigenous-language spelling competitions and helped build a community center in a rural mountaintop village.

When he isn’t working, Jason can be found around Wailuku with his wife Lantana and their adorable son Magnus.
